Poker Training: Cardrunners Review
Cardrunners is a Poker Training site which was set up by online professional poker player Taylor Caby (A.K.A “Green Plastic”) in mid 2005. Cardrunners boasts more than 500 videos and over 25 professional instructors.
Cardrunners Instructors
Brian Townsend, Taylor Caby, ActionJeff, Mr Menlo (Online Player of the Year 2007), CTS, AaronBeen, Zpaceman, Muddywater, Stinger, Jackal69, tufat23 and more..
Poker Training Videos
CardRunners currently uploads a new video 6 days a week Monday through Saturday, generally by 5pm EST. All videos can be streamed and watched in a browser, or downloaded to watch on your PC. Although a Digital Rights Management(DRM) system is used for copyright protection, licences for the videos can be saved on your pc so you can watch them offline.
Finding videos of interest is easy - the CardRunners site allows you to search for videos using a good selection of filters - you can search by tournament type (mtt/cash/sng etc), instructor, poker site, buy-in, table size and number of tables.
Other features include being able to tell which videos you have watched before, content rating (rating all videos for content, quality or improvements) - all of which seems to keep the quality of the CardRunners poker training videos high indeed. Download speeds are good and streaming seems to work without any juddering.
Content Breakdown
At the time of writing of this review, out of over 500 videos, CardRunners offers 300 instructional cash videos, 150 MTT videos and 60 SNG videos (and a few miscellaneous videos covering recording with Camtasia and using PokerTracker).
The Forums
The CardRunners Forums are for subscribers only. Everything looks pleasant on the eye, and the forum is easy to navigate. Secions include NL Cash games (low/mid/high), General Strategy(NL Theory and Strategy, Psychology, and a Low-Limit Guide), Tournament Strategy (Sng’s -Low/mid/high stakes, MTT’s), Other Cash games(LHE, PLO, HU, 7 stud,7stud 8 or better, omaha and omaha8, Razz and Triple-Draw 2-7), in addition to off-topic forums and a feedback forum.
The forums are great for getting good advice and feedback from players, who will usually try to justify their responses mathematically, and who put a lot of thought into their replies - a fresh change from some other poker forums for sure!
Pro-Player Blogs
As a member or non-member, you have the chance to read the blogs of Taylor Caby and Brian Townsend - both of which are full of good advice, amazing hand-histories and analysis, as well as strategy (inevitably with a few some bad beats for good measure!)
Review Score
Our ranking: 10/10
CardRunners is simply one of the best training sites on the internet - period. They have some of the best instructors/players in the world, and have created an excellent community in which members can have fun and improve their poker game immensely. The monthly fee won’t put a dent in your bankroll - and is worth every penny.
